WRC cars leaving on time for Rally New Zealand

10:04 am on 27 April 2010

Rally New Zealand officials have confirmed that the planes carrying cars and team equipment for World Rally Championship competitors are on schedule to depart London and Amsterdam on Wednesday bound for Auckland.

The schedule for some teams was very tight after the Iceland volcano eruption disrupted travel plans following the Turkey rally last week.

Rally New Zealand chairman Chris Carr says certainly the teams have had less time to prepare for Rally New Zealand than originally planned, but they expect cars and people to arrive on time for next week's event.

Rally New Zealand formally gets underway with the ceremonial start on Thursday May 6th, but reconnaissance starts two days before.

The rally itself takes place over three days, from Friday May 7th to Sunday May 9th, on roads through the Whangarei, Kaipara, Franklin, North Waikato and Kaipara districts, with competitors returning to Auckland each evening.
