Ninety thousand tickets have been ordered in the first six hours of public ticket sales for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand next year.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 chief executive Martin Snedden says applications for venue and team pool pool packs opened at nine o'clock Tuesday morning and in the first six hours they received 25,000 applications, repesenting 90,000 tickets.

Snedden says they'd already received orders over $40 million in ticket applications from around the world and the New Zealand rugby community, corporate box holders along with members and provincial union season ticket holders.

Tuesday marks 500 days till the tournament kicks off.
