Lleyton Hewitt's French Open plans have suffered a setback with the Australian former world tennis No.1 bundled out of the Rome Masters in straight sets by Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Hewitt scored an upset first-round win over Russian Mikhail Youzhny but was unable to back it up as he went down 6-2 6-3 in the second round.

The reigning champion Rafael Nadal was at his dominant best, thumping the German Philipp Kohlshreiber 6-1 6-3 to reach the third round.

The fifth seed Robin Soderling also moved into the third round with a 6-1 7-5 win over over an Italian wildcard Paolo Lorenzi.

Soderling lost to Nadal in Rome last year but then knocked out the Spaniard at Roland Garros in the fourth round before reaching his first ever Grand Slam semi-final.
