New Zealand Football's recent on-field success has been matched by a strong financial performance off it.
The sport's national body has announced a $1.35 million surplus for 2009.
The surplus, the second in succession after four previous years of deficits, represents an increase of almost $1 million from 2008's $361,000.
The chairman of New Zealand Football, Frank van Hattum, says a record crowd in Wellington for the final leg of the World Cup playoff against Bahrain, a favourable exchange rate when converting prize money from the Confederations Cup and a focus on organisational efficiency had all contributed to the result.
He says the organisation has now emerged from its dire financial problems of two years ago.
