The North Queensland and Australia star Jonathan Thurston is in doubt for this Friday's ANZAC rugby league Test against New Zealand, after injuring his right shoulder in the Cowboys' 34-6 home NRL loss to the Melbourne Storm on Saturday.

Ironically it was a Kiwis player, the Storm second-rower Adam Blair, who inflicted the injury at Dairy Farmers Stadium in the opening exchanges, forcing Thurston from the field after just 12 minutes.

St George Illawarra remain on top ahead of Gold Coast after shutting out a sorry Cronulla 38-0 in Wollongong, the Dragons inflicting a 10th straight away loss on the Sharks.

The Titans beat the third-placed Penrith Panthers 38-24 on the Gold Coast.

The Warriors remain 10th on the NRL ladder after their 23-16 home loss to the Canberra Raiders.
