Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy has won the Quail Hollow championship after a record closing round of 10 under par 62, two shots inside the previous course record.

Two days before his 21st birthday, McIlroy becomes the youngest player since Tiger Woods to win on the US PGA Tour.

Woods didn't make the cut and McIlroy just scraped in by a single stroke before firing a 66 on Sunday.

He began his final round six shots off the pace tied for seventh, but eight birdies and an eagle in his final round took him to a 15-under total of 273, four clear of Phil Mickelson.
