Woods braced for defeat in rankings battle

9:07 am on 6 May 2010

Tiger Woods has admitted his status as world number one is under threat going into the Players Championship in Florida, starting tomorrow morning.

The current Masters champion Phil Mickelson will end Woods record 258 weeks at number one if he wins the Players title and Woods finishes outside the top five at Sawgrass.

Woods missed the cut last week for only the 6th time in his career, and he admits the turmoil in his private life, and being tailed round the clock by paparazzi, are affecting his game.
