Aussies recover to make Twenty20 Super eight round

6:53 pm on 6 May 2010

Australia are through to the second phase of the Twenty20 World Cup cricket tournament in the West Indies, but they were on the back foot for a while against Bangladesh in their final group match at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The Bangladeshi slow bowlers were so effective, they didn't concede one boundary in more than 10 overs in the earlier part of Australia's innings, and after being 65 for 6, the world one day champions had Michael Hussey and Steven Smith to thank as they put on 74 in the last 7 overs to give them a respectable 141 for 7.

It was a relieved captain Michael Clarke after they dismissed Bangladesh for 114.

In the second game this morning South Africa should have little trouble against Afghanistan, and they'll almost certainly play New Zealand in round one of the Super eights stage.
