All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen saw off goalkeeper Mark Paston and striker Shane Smeltz to pick up the Men's Player of the Year award at the New Zealand Football Awards in Auckland.

The All Whites accounted for four of the top awards with coach Ricki Herbert winning the coaching award for masterminding the first World Cup qualification since 1982, while the All Whites claimed the Team of the Year prize, edging out the New Zealand under-17 side and Auckland City.

The All Whites striker Chris Wood was rewarded for his English Premier League and All Whites debuts in 2009 with a second straight Young Men's Player of the Year award.

There were also repeat winners among the Football Ferns as Ali Riley and Rosie White held onto their respective Nike Women's Player and Young Women's Player of the Year awards.
