Big Phil in contention going into final day

11:38 am on 9 May 2010

Phil Mickelson's keeping his hopes of replacing Tiger Woods as world number one alive by spectacularly charging into contention at the Players Championship in Florida.

From a distant nine strokes off the pace at the start of the third day at the TPC Sawgrass, the US Masters champion fired a sparkling six-under-par 66 to be tied for 11th, five off the pace set by England's Lee Westwood, who shot a two under 70.

Tiger Woods is in a share of 45th after a one under 71. If Mickelson wins he'll replace Woods at the top of the world golf ladder.
