The national javelin champion Stuart Farquhar is hoping his win at the Osaka Grand Prix meet in Japan, will give him the chance to compete at major meets in Europe.

Farquhar won the event with a throw of 82.41 metres, beating the Russian Ilya Korotkov by more than a metre.

The World Championship bronze medallist Yukifumi Murakami of Japan, who was also competing, was fifth.

Farquhar has the third best throw in the world this year to date, having beaten his own personal best with a wind-assisted throw of 85.35 metres in February.

That was bettered later the same month by Korotkov and then Cuban Guillermo Martinez.
