The New Zealand cyclist Greg Henderson has for the second day been involved in a crash on the Giro d'Italia, but he continues to battle on.
Henderson and his entire SKY team came down with about 10km's to go in the 224km stage in the Netherlands, losing more than 30 seconds, but they fought back to finish just behind the sprint group.
Belgium's Wouter Weylandt was the surprise winner of the third stage, while Alexandre Vinokourov of Kazakstan took the overall lead. Henderson was 38th and fellow New Zealander Julian Dean was 64th.
Critics have slammed Vinokourov for returning to the sport after his ban for blood doping in the 2007 Tour de France.
The Giro has been touring the Netherlands for the first three days before returning to Italy. Wednesday is a rest day.
Previous overall leader, Australian world champion Cadel Evans, was held up by a crash and possible chain problem.
