Australia's elite athletes are set to benefit from the Australian budget announced yesterday.

Of the 400 million dollars in ongoing funding earmarked for sport in the 2010 budget, 295 million will go to supporting Australia's elite athletes.

Of the remaining cash, 88 million will go to grassroots community sport and nearly 20 million will be spent on the Australian Paralympic Committee's high performance programs and to support the broadcast of the 2012 Paralympic Games from London.

In all, there is 244 million in new funding in a package which commits 1.5 billion to community and elite sport over the next four years.
