Super 14 vs the NRL

8:53 am on 16 May 2010

It was the Super 14 vs the NRL in Auckland on Saturday night.

In the last Super 14 match at Eden Park, which is under construction, a capacity 17,500 watched the Blues vs the Chiefs, while almost 11,000 saw the Warriors vs the Cowboys at Mt Smart Stadium.

Couch potatoes probably voted with their remotes.

Both games kicked off at the same time but the interest levels were definitely higher in Penrose as the Warriors scored two converted tries before the quarter hour mark, while it was still scoreless after 20 minutes at Eden Park.

After that the action was pretty even with two tries to the Blues and another to the Warriors before half-time - the Warriors led 20-0 with way more ball running as the set-pieces slowed the action down for the Blues-Chiefs game, which ended 12-6 at the break.

A punch-up late in the NRL game was the only thing to split the two codes in the second half as the Warriors ended a three-match losing streak and the Blues posted back-to-back wins for just the second time this season.

The Blues won 30-20, five tries to two, while the Warriors won 24-12, with four tries to two.
