Henderson pipped for podium finish again

6:01 am on 18 May 2010

The New Zealand cyclist Greg Henderson has just missed out on a podium finish again on the Giro d'Italia, finishing 8th on the 9th stage near Naples.

The sprint finish was won by Matthew Goss, who became the third Australian to win a stage in this year's Giro.

The Kazak rider Alexandre Vinokourov kept the overall lead, still one minute 12 seconds ahead of Australian Cadel Evans.

Henderson is 60th overall and 10th in the sprint points standing.

Tonight's 10th stage is a 230km route from Avellino to Bitonto which practically goes from the west to the east coast via numerous small peaks.

The three-week race, without top riders Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador, finishes on May 30th in Verona.
