Germany captain out of World Cup

Germany's World Cup football hopes have suffered a severe blow after the withdrawal of their captain Michael Ballack with torn ligaments in his right ankle.

The Chelsea midfielder was injured in the first half of the FA Cup final against Portsmouth at the weekend, and he'll be out of the game for about two months.

It's a devastating setback for 33 year old Ballack who's unlikely to play in another World Cup, and he would have celebrated his 100th cap for Germany in a match against Bosnia between now and the World Cup.
