Boateng becomes public enemy no. 1 in Germany

8:02 am on 20 May 2010

Germany's new 'public enemy number one' Kevin-Prince Boateng has apologised for his tackle on Michael Ballack in last weekend's English FA Cup final which has ruled the German captain out of next month's World Cup finals.

The apology has done little to dampen German anger directed at Boateng, who was born in Berlin to a Ghanaian father and German mother, and has had an uneasy relationship with German fans ever since his playing days at Hertha Berlin.

Geman fans vented their anger on dozens of websites, including one called '82 million against Boateng'.

The irony is that the 23-year-old Berlin-born midfielder will take part in the World Cup playing for Ghana, and his half-brother Jerome is in Germany's preliminary squad for the Cup finals.

And Ghana and Germany are in the same group in South Africa.
