Mystics blow it against the NSW Swifts in Auckland

4:00 pm on 29 May 2010

The Mystics have all but lost their chance of making the trans-Tasman netball competition playoffs with a 54-48 loss to the top of the table New South Wales Swifts in Auckland.

The home side had fought back hard in the final quarter to narrow a 9-goal deficit to 6, but too many mistakes meant they could not capitalise on crucial turnover opportunities.

Coming off a bye, the sixth-placed Mystics trailed by 6 goals at the end of the first quarter, fighting back in the second to cut that deficit to only 2 at half-time, as the Swifts led 30-28.

The visitors effectively claimed the match in the third quarter, leading 44-35 at the last break.

Mystics goal shoot Catherine Latu had an accuracy rate of 91 per cent, while Susan Pratley landed 88 per cent of her attempts for the Swifts.

In other Round 11 games, the Canterbury Tactix are coming off a loss to the Pulse to play the third-placed Thunderbirds in Adelaide tomorrow.

The second-placed Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic will hope to turn around their loss to the Southern Steel when they host the Queensland Firebirds on Monday night.

And the 10th-placed Pulse are away to the eighth placed West Coast Fever in Perth.

There are only three more regualtion rounds before the elimination round.
