Keep it simple the mantra in opening Test

The captain Richie McCaw says the All Blacks have learned from last year's June internationals that trying too much too soon will cost them against Ireland next month.

In 2009 the All Blacks had a loss and a win against France in their first 2 Tests, followed by an uninspired victory over Italy.

Ireland are coming off their northern hemisphere season and will fancy their chances of a first-ever win against an injury-ravaged New Zealand side.

And McCaw knows with another short build-up the team has to just concentrate on the basics.

He thinks the All Blacks tried to get to the finish line straight away in those first few weeks and doing the simple things well is what they'll concentrate on.

The All Blacks start their camp in Auckland on Wednesday with the Irish Test on Saturday week in New Plymouth.
