FIFA's president Sepp Blatter has called Nelson Mandela the most charismatic humanist alive when the venue for the World Cup's opening match, was officially handed over to football's world governing ruling body.
Blatter says the right legacy for the World Cup will be to celebrate Africa's humanity and he hopes 91-year-old Mandela will attend the tournament opening.
The 90,000 capacity Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg will host eight matches including the final on July 11,
It was handed over to FIFA for the duration of the tournament by the Gauteng province Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and the executive mayor of Johannesburg Amos Masondo.
Blatter says the stadium is five star and not only a flagship for South Africa but it is a flagship for Africa and the world.
