The US Olympic gold medal skier, Bode Miller is trading his poles and the slopes for a racquet and Hawaiian sun in a bid to qualify for the US Tennis Open.

Miller, who won gold, silver and bronze at the Vancouver Winter Olympics has entered a qualifying tournament in Honolulu.

Tennis is not new to Miller though - he was a 1996 Maine state singles champion and his family owns a tennis camp in New Hampshire.

Winners from Hawaii and 15 other sectional qualifying winners advance to the US national qualifying tournament in August, where they'll compete for a chance to play in the year's final grand slam event.
