Dragons pip Warriors

6:50 am on 7 June 2010

The St George Illawarra Dragons stay top of the National Rugby League standings after beating the New Zealand Warriors 22-20 in Auckland.

The home side jumped to a 6-0 lead after just five minutes with a converted try to halfback James Maloney.

The Dragons scored on either side of half time to take the lead, before Warriors captain Simon Mannering touched down to put his side in front again.

The visitors then appeared to settle the clash with two more tries, however five-eighth Isaac John scored his first try for the Warriors to get within two points.

Unfortunately the Warriors let a couple of scoring opportunities slip in the last 10 minutes.

To rub salt into the Warriors' wounds, their centre Brent Tait has suffered a broken jaw.
