Rafael Nadal's savouring his fifth French Open title in six years after battling back from injuries to sweep all before him this year on clay.

Nadal beat Sweden's Robin Soderling 6-4 6-2 6-4 in the final to also reclaim his world number 1 ranking from the Swiss great Roger Federer.

The 24-year-old Spaniard's now won all three Masters tournaments this year on clay, as well as his latest Paris crown.

Nadal was in a miserly mood against the man who stunned him in last year's fourth round, his only defeat at Roland Garros, and the challenge of Soderling, who knocked Federer out in the quarter-finals after losing last year's final to the Swiss maestro, fizzled out in disappointing fashion in two hours 18 minutes.

Nadal, who called it the most emotional day in his career, now has seven grand slam titles to his name. Federer has the record with 16.
