Magic's playoff chances slip

9:15 am on 8 June 2010

The Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic's chances of making the playoffs in netball's trans-Tasman championship have slipped after a 60-43 hiding from the New South Wales Swifts in Sydney.

The Magic coach, Noeline Taurua, says after the first quarter they couldn't counter the skill of the Swifts.

Taurua says with two rounds to go the Magic can still make the playoffs -- they play the Central Pulse in Wellington this weekend then host the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Rotorua.

The Swifts secured the minor premiership and remain unbeaten after 11 games while the Magic 's third straight loss leaves them in fourth on 14 points, level with the Southern Steel

but behind them on goal percentage.

The Steel's 53-39 home win over the Canterbury Tactix moves them to third behind the Swifts and Thunderbirds .
