New Zealander Cameron Cole has raced to a second place podium finish at the Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in Scotland.

The 2006 Junior Downhill World Champion has been on a steady rise through the Elite ranks since winning that title, but the speed with which Cole's first World Cup podium came as a shock to the Christchurch rider.

Cole finished just 0.48 seconds behind race winner Gee Atherton of Great Britain.

Two other New Zealanders recorded top ten results at the Fort William course with Wanganui's Sam Blenkinsop and Dunedin's Justin Leov finishing 6th and 14th respectively.

The three riders also move into the top ten in the World Cup standings with Cole third, Blenkinsop sixth and Leov ninth.
