Tough schedule for Tall Blacks

4:19 pm on 9 June 2010

The Tall Blacks will play nine games at three tournaments in three countries as part of their build-up for the men's basketball World Championship in Turkey in late August.

Trials are scheduled for July 23-25 in Auckland before the Tall Blacks -- who're ranked 13th in the world, take on Iran, Serbia and Turkey in Istanbul from August 6-8, after the first of a series of training camps.

Then they'll play Russia, Serbia and Slovenia, in Maribor before going to Croatia for a tournament with the home nation, Russia and Jordan.

Their World Championship group games against Lithuania, Spain, Lebanon, Canada and France are at Izmir in Turkey.

Former Tall Black Dillon Boucher who's now an assistant coach says it's a great buildup especially playing in basketball hotbeds such as Croatia and Turkey, as well as Slovenia.
