Formula One drivers have been warned they could face penalties within their sport if they lose their driving licences for serious traffic offences.
The radical idea is being formulated by the sport's governing body, the FIA.
It follows the former world champion Lewis Hamilton's booking and loss of his road car for doing burnouts leaving Albert Park before the Australian Grand Prix in March.
Hamilton's case is due to be heard in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on August 24.
The FIA boss Jean Todt says it's wrong for F1 drivers to compete without any sanctions if they commit serious offences on the roads when 1.3 million people died on roads around the world last year, 90 per cent in developing countries.
