The former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has donated 96,000 pounds to the charity supporting the families of victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

The Spaniard, who left Anfield by mutual consent last week, was named as Jose Mourinho's replacement at European champions Inter Milan on Thursday.

Benitez returned the city this week to make the donation, a thousand pounds for each of the Liverpool supporters who died during a spectator crush at Sheffield's Hillsborough stadium at an FA Cup semi-final in 1989.
