Vicelich could be an option in midfield

The All Whites coach Ricki Herbert could turn to the experience of defender Ivan Vicelich to plug the midfield in their World Cup opener against Slovakia in Rustenberg tomorrow night.

Herbert has tried a number of options since Tim Brown injured his shoulder against Australia a month ago, but is still searching.

That could mean a chance for Auckland City veteran Vicelich, who started his career in central midfield but has lost his starting place in defence to Tommy Smith.

Herbert says you're not going to lack experience with Vicelich and that might be what they need in this game.

Brown, who has only just rejoined the team, is unlikely to be considered for the first match.
