Workers chased by police after football World Cup match

6:48 pm on 14 June 2010

Police in South Africa fired teargas and rubber bullets at hundreds of stadium workers protesting over wages in Durban, following Germany's win over Australia at the football World Cup.

Riot police chased the workers, who were deployed as stewards in the ground, out of the stadium.

At least one woman was injured when she was hit by a rubber bullet.

A police spokesperson says the disturbance started after workers were paid less than they expected for their work during the match.
