The Romania football striker Adrian Mutu has been ordered to pay former club Chelsea 30 million dollars in damages by the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, six years after he was sacked for testing postive for cocaine.

In July, the Switzerland-based Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld a FIFA ruling in 2008 that the 31-year-old striker had to compensate the English club.

Mutu then appealed to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court which temporarily suspended the fine in October.

Mutu, who now plays for Fiorentina in Italy, is currently suspended until the end of October for testing positive for a banned appetite suppressant.

A Chelsea spokesman said the club would not comment on the court ruling.
