Robbie Fowler sues former club over contract termination

The former England star Robbie Fowler is taking legal action seeking damages over his contract termination by the cash-strapped A-League football club North Queensland Fury.

Fowler, who's since signed a new deal with Perth Glory, is one of seven former North Queensland players who had their contracts terminated following the corporate restructure of the club earlier this year.

The legal action has been launched by the players' union, on Fowler's behalf, against the club and Football Federation Australia.

The players union says the the stance taken by the FFA and the Fury has left five players unemployed, three of whom were recovering from long-term injuries.

The union has negotiated settlements for six out of seven players, but was unable to reach an agreement for Fowler.
