New Zealand score last minute goal to make football history

6:36 am on 16 June 2010

The All Whites have made New Zealand football history, by drawing their opening World Cup match 1-all against Slovakia, following a last-minute goal from defender Winston Reid.

The score was locked at nil-all at half-time, but a well-timed header by Slovakia's Robert Vittek found the goal just five minutes into the second half.

Despite some strong pressure from Slovakia after the break, the New Zealand defence managed to keep their opposition from scoring again.

In the final minute of stoppage time, Denmark-based Reid scored the pivotal equlaizer, to earn New Zealand it's first competition point at the World Cup.

All four teams in Group F are now on equal points on the table, after Italy and Paraguay drew 1-all yesterday morning.

New Zealand next play the defending champions Italy on Monday morning.
