Athletics team named for Youth Olympics

A team of 11 young athletes have been selected to represent New Zealand in athletics at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore in August.

With a series of national championships and age-group records to their names, this team all aged seventeen and under are serious prospects for the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.

Shot put age-group world record holder, the 15-year-old Jackson Gill of Auckland is the youngest in the team.

The rest of the team is 3000 metre runner Mohamed Ali of Hamilton, 800 metre runner Brad Mathas of Whanganui, 3000 metre runner Anna-Lisa Uttley of Tauranga, discus thrower Hayden Hall of Christchurch, sprinters Hazel Bowering-Scott of Nelson and Yarride Rosario of Wellington, hurdler Joshua Hawkins of Auckland, steeplechaser Jenna Hansen of Hamilton, walker Matthew Holcroft of Hamilton and hammer thrower Julia Ratcliffe of Hamilton.
