Bad day for Team New Zealand

6:47 pm on 17 June 2010

Team New Zealand has had a disappointing opening day at the Marseille Med Cup yachting regatta.

After winning the 2009 series championship and the first regatta of the 2010 season, Team New Zealand could manage just 10th, 6th and 5th in light conditions in today's 3 races.

Skipper Dean Barker says their boat performs really well across the range of conditions, but if there is a weakness with the boat, it's when it's light and lumpy.

Tomorrow's forecast is looking better with a more stable 12-16 knots forecast.

The American Quantum Racing syndicate tops the standings after scoring 2 wins, while Team New Zealand is 9th, 10 points back.
