Two late field goals from Trent Hodkinson sealed a 26-25 win in the National Rugby League for a patched-up Manly over South Sydney in an absorbing clash at Brookvale Oval.
Trailing 25-24 with three minutes remaining, the Canterbury-bound Hodkinson booted two field goals to give the Sea Eagles a first home win since round nine.
But it came at a price with Manly and New South Wales centre Jamie Lyon out of contention for next month's third State of Origin clash in Sydney after he re-injured his right ankle.
The Melbourne Storm also humiliated North Queensland at their new home ground, crushing the Cowboys 58-12 at AAMI Park.
The Cowboy's woeful season record is now 10 losses and a miserly four wins - but they can't get the wooden spoon, with Melbourne already securing that after they were stripped of all points for the season because of salary cap cheating.
It was the Storm's biggest total since 2007 when they co-incidentally beat the Cowboys by the same scoreline.
