Spain beat Honduras

8:24 am on 22 June 2010

Striker David Villa hit two stunning goals -- and missed a penalty -- as Spain returned to form with a 2-nil victory over Honduras in a group H World Cup match in Johannesburg.

Villa scored a brilliant solo goal in the 17th minute, threading through the Honduran defence and lashing home with his right foot.

He added a second in the 51st with a fierce drive from outside the box but failed to complete a hat trick by shooting wide from the penalty spot 11 minutes later.

The European champions, who fell to a shock 1-nil defeat to Switzerland in their opening Group H game, squandered a hatful of chances in a one-sided game against the central Americans.

Chile, who beat Switzerland 1-nil earlier in Port Elizabeth, lead the group with six points from Spain and the Swiss on three and Honduras on none.
