The former Australian rugby league Test and Queensland State of Origin centre Brent Tate is to leave the Warriors to play for the North Queensland Cowboys on a three-year NRL deal from next season.
The 28-year-old says he's turned down a big offer from the Warriors to stay after his three-year contract expires at the end of this season and decided to move to Townsville for family reasons.
He says it's been a tough decision as he's loved being at the Warriors since he moved from Brisbane in 2008 to join his brother-in-law Steve Price in Auckland.
Injuries have meant Tate's played just 39 games for the Warriors and he says his return to Queensland is also about considering his options post-football.
He's sidelined for up to six weeks after breaking his jaw in the home loss to St George Illawarra on June 6.
