McCullum gives up Test wicketkeeping

12:49 pm on 27 June 2010

The New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum has decided to give up wicketkeeping in Test matches but will continue to don the gloves in Twenty20 and one day internationals.

McCullum says he wants to focus on scoring runs as a specialist Test batsman with the aim of playing at international level for as long as possible.

The 28-year-old's talked to a lot of people about how they went about extending their international careers, including some prominent former and current wicketkeepers, and hopes that by limiting his keeping to the shorter forms of the game it increases his chances of prolonging his career.
