Tevez double puts Argentina in last eight

Carlos Tevez struck twice as Argentina set up a rematch of their 1986 and 1990 World Cup finals with Germany, beating Mexico 3-1 in their second round match in Johannesburg.

As in Germany's 4-1 defeat of England earlier in Bloemfontein, there was a first half refereeing controversy when Tevez headed in Argentina's 26th minute opener.

Replays suggested he was well offside but as the Mexican players' protested

the Italian referee Roberto Rosetti, who then went to his assistant linesman for confirmation.

Gonzalo Higuain extended the lead with his fourth goal of the tournament, putting him top of the goalscoring list.

Argentina play Germany in Cape Town on Sunday.
