FIFA turns deaf ear to technology calls

8:43 am on 29 June 2010

FIFA steadfastly refuses to enter into the debate over the use of technology despite a World Cup marred by a series of referee blunders.

FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot said the organisation's stance remained the same on the non-use of technology, even though its use is widespread in tennis, Formula One, rugby, field hockey and cricket.

Answers have been demanded of FIFA after major refereeing blunders in yesterday's Germany-England and Argentina-Mexico second-round matches.

The row even spread to the All England Club where Wimbledon champion Federer insisted football should move with the times, although he thinks his sport could do without the 'Hawkeye' technology.
