Women's shocks at Wimbledon

6:23 am on 30 June 2010

Wimbledon is guaranteed a new grand slam finalist in the women's singles after two huge upsets in the quarter-finals.

The biggest casualty last night was Venus Williams who suffered her heaviest ever Wimbledon defeat, beaten 6-2 6-3 by the unseeded 22 year old Tsvetana Pironkova, the first Bulgarian woman to reach a grand slam semi-final in the modern era.

And the former world number one Kim Clijsters lost in three to the Russian Vera Zvonareva who fought back to win after dropping the first set.

Things are looking good for the defending champion Serena Williams who won her quarter-final against the 9th seed from China Li Na 7-5 6-3.
