SBW knocks out opponent

6:08 am on 1 July 2010

New Zealand rugby's new recruit Sonny Bill Williams spent just 2 and a half minutes in the ring last night as he scored a knock-out win over his overweight opponent Ryan Hogan in their bout in Brisbane.

Fighting on the undercard to Anthony Mundine's bout against Argentine Carlos Aden Jerez, Williams landed a right hook during the first round to send Hogan to the canvas.

The supremely cut Williams, who will return to rugby for Canterbury in the national championships at the end of July, hardly broke a sweat.

Williams says he would have preferred a more brutal encounter and was disappointed the grossly overweight Hogan was able to land a couple of blows.

Williams will return to New Zealand at the weekend to concentrate on his rugby career.

Meanwhile Mundine won a unanimous points decision against his handpicked opponent, Jerez, in their WBA international light middleweight bout.
