The teenage New Zealand golfer Danny Lee is tied for fifth after an opening round of 67 at the French Open in Paris.

Lee, who turns 20 this month, had four birdies in a bogey free round, and he's four shots behind the leader, Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen whose 63 has him three shots clear of a world class field.

Wellingtonians Mark Brown and Michael Campbell had rounds of 70 and 74 respectively.
