Doping and Tour again in spotlight

5:48 am on 4 July 2010

Doping reared its head again on day one of the Tour de France with a Spanish rider kicked out of the race and fresh claims from Floyd Landis.

Xavier Florencio was dropped from the Cervelo squad overnight for taking a medication not cleared in advance by the team's medical staff.

Earlier, in an article in the Wall Street Journal, Landis, the disgraced 2006 Tour winner, provided more details about his use of drugs and claims against some of the biggest names in sport, including Lance Armstrong.

Armstrong, who has denied any wrongdoing, has never tested positive in his career.
