Swifts expected to be tough opponents despite drawbacks

A former New Zealand netball coach is warning the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic not to underestimate the New South Wales Swifts in the preliminary trans-tasman final in Newcastle.

The Swifts were easily beaten by the Adelaide Thunderbirds in last week's major semi-final, going down 52-38 in their first loss of the season.

The Swifts captain, Catherine Cox, was also badly injured, breaking her nose in the first quarter and receiving a corked thigh in the third.

But Cox will play for the Swifts this afternoon, and the former New Zealand coach, Yvonne Willering, says they won't be easy to beat.

Willering says the Swifts' desire to be in next week's final will be unbelievable.

But she says the Magic have grown in confidence in the past few weeks, and could upset the title favourites if they play to their potential.

The winner of today's match will play the Thunderbirds for the trans-tasman netball title in Adelaide next Sunday.
