Bolt to run 100m to avoid injury

6:35 am on 7 July 2010

The triple Olympic champion sprinter, Usain Bolt, has decided to run the 100 metres rather than 200 metres to avoid further injury at the Diamond League athletics meeting in New York.

The race will be the Jamaican world record holder's first since he strained his Achilles tendon in May.

Organiers say Bolt has confirmed he has completely recovered from his injury, but after consulting with his doctor who treated him in Munich, the Jamaican has decided to run the 100 metres in order to avoid further injuries.
