The Australian Test vice captain Michael Clarke says batsmen all over the world will rejoice in the news that the Spri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is calling it quits.
The 38-year-old Sri Lankan will retire from Tests after the home series opener against India in Galle stating later this month.
Muralitharan's taken a world record 792 wickets, tormenting batsmen and officialdom around the world with his controversial action.
Clarke says a lot of batsmen will be happy they won't have to face him any more.
Muralitharan was almost hounded out of the sport for his bent-armed action and was no-balled in two separate series in Australia for throwing.
The ICC effectively made his action legal but many struggle to rank him above Shane Warne in the spin bowling stakes.
Warne, who took 708 Test wickets, says people will always question the merits of Muralitharan's action but says he always thought the Sri Lankan was a great asset to the game.
