11:17 am on 9 July 2010

An English referee has been appointed for Monday morning's World Cup football final in Johannesburg.

Howard Webb will control the Spain-Netherlands showdown, and Webb will be assisted by two British linesmen.

Webb's a policeman on sabbatical who's well known to football audiences as one of the best officials in the Premier League.

He sports a bald head and stern features that match his no-nonsense approach.
