6:26 am on 9 July 2010

The New Zealand tennis team have the chance to square the ledger against Pakistan when the teams meet in the Asia/Oceania group two Davis Cup tennis semi-final beginning today in Hawera.

Pakistan have named 30-year-old veterans Aisam ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan to play both the singles and doubles matches.

Qureshi and Khan were also the winning combination in the Asia/Oceania Zone group one second round playoff in 2004 which saw New Zealand relegated to group 2 where they have remained.

For today's tie, captain Marcel Vos has handed US-based 22-year-old Michael Venus his Davis Cup debut as the New Zealand number two in the singles alongside 23-year-old Rubin Statham.

The tie will open with Statham playing Khan followed by Venus against Qureshi.
